Kachin Environmental Group

Since the military group seized power, the country’s education system and economy have declined significantly. In particular, school attendance in various townships has dropped to alarmingly low levels. Additionally, it has been found that students are more likely to work abroad than to attend school.
At this time, parents are increasingly concerned about not only financial difficulties but also the basic necessities needed to keep their children in school. As a result, the attendance rate of students in various townships continues to decrease.
Currently, students are taking initiative to support themselves. Along the Irrawaddy River in Kachin State, there are more gold mining operations than ever before, and children under the age of 18 are increasingly found working in these areas.
